hummus

Hi, everyone! I hope you're having a great day and this quick little recipe makes it even better. I've been working a lot on quick How To: Basics for simple recipes and foods you would normally buy at the grocery store, but can make even better, faster, and cheaper at home!

In all honestly, I thought making your own hummus was WAY more difficult than it actually is. In reality, it takes about 10 minutes or less to make and it yields about 4 cups of hummus.  Cost-wise, it is about $4 for all the ingredients and compared to the $4 I would pay at the store, I get about 4x more hummus - so I say that's a win. It's really nice to taste it fresh and know you made it yourself so you controlled what ingredients were used.

Homemade Hummus

Time: 10 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cans of drained chickpeas
  • 1 lemon (juiced)
  • 1 Tbsp tahini
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Extra-virgin olive oil (My favorite olive oil)
  • Add any additional flavors:
    • Cilantro
    • Garlic + red pepper
    • Truffle oil + black pepper

DIRECTIONS

  1. Add chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, and olive oil to the food processor.
  2. Mix in food processor until combined and smooth (sometimes I have to add more olive oil)
  3. Taste and add a small amount of salt (1 tsp). Taste again and add more if you like it saltier.
  4. Now add in different spices and herbs if you'd like! For herbs, I say 1/4 cup chopped if it's fresh and 1/2 Tbsp of a dry spice to give you a template for quantity.
  5. Mix together until smooth and serve! Top with olive oil and additional spices.
  6. Store up to 10 days in the fridge. Perfect to add on top of veggies and meals for the week.
  7. Enjoy!

If you end up making the hummus, please let me know by leaving a comment below! I love to hear your different combinations and ideas.

xoxo,
